From an early age we are often told that we need to take care of our skin, not only to prevent skin cancer but also to avoid any premature aging. Of course, when we are young we don't really believe we will ever get sick or age, so much of that advice goes out the window and into the tanning bed! I hate to admit it, but I unfortunately was guilty of both.
Fine lines, wrinkles, and under-eye bags will inevitably make their way into all of our lives at one point or another, and before you know it, you'll be wishing you had listened to all of that smart advice. The good news is that it's never too late to start, and while you might not be able to turn back the clock, you can at least minimize anything that might be emerging.
If you're reading this and you are still young and gleaming, take my advice: listen to that skincare advice and follow it NOW! And if you feel the damage is already done, don't fret. You'll be pleased to hear that these tips are actually quite easy to start incorporating into your skincare routine stat!
20s Take Your Make Up Off!
That party lifestyle of your 20s often makes it difficult to remember to take off your make-up before falling into bed, but by doing so you're actually making a huge skincare mistake. A quick five minutes of washing up before bed will save years off your skin's age and will also help you feel fresher in the morning as a result.
When feeling exhausted, simply grab a face wipe and gently sweep across your skin, removing your make up in the most gentle and effective of ways. These Lauren Napier Facial Cleansing Wipes are ideal for removing even the most stubborn of cosmetics, and smell rather delish as well!
As you move into your flirty thirties, the most important thing to remember is to moisturize. Not only will you have super soft, wonderfully scented skin, but you'll also be hydrating your best asset and making it look as youthful as you are still feeling. You'll find countless products on the market which promise to moisturize every inch of your body, but for your face in particular, this wondeful Dr Sebagh Skin Perfecting Cream is one of my personal favorites.
Your fabulous forties are all about exfoliating. This removes the dead skin cells which tend to accumulate and sit on the surface of your skin, and allows that plush, fresh, and radiant inner layer to come to the surface. You will look and feel much more shiny and youthful and avoid any dullness.
If you're thinking that exfoliating sounds painful, you're wrong. There are some creamy and luxurious exfoliating creams on the market that make the whole process not only effective, but enjoyable at the same time. Check out these SHISEIDO Exfoliating Discs for something a little different to what you might be used to.
50s+ Protect & Hydrate
As you move into your fifties and over, your skincare regime becomes about adding a protective barrier to your skin such as soothing creams and serums. This might include a day cream, night creams or a combination of both, but the objective is to boost the skin's natural collagen production, which works to give you naturally glowing, more youthful looking skin, no matter whether you're 65 or 35. Elizabeth Arden has a fantastic range of skincare products but their Skin Renewal Booster is a particular standout one to try.
Looking great isn't just about what clothing you choose to wear. It's also about how you present yourself and perhaps most importantly, how you feel from the inside out. There's no denying that when you feel amazing you look amazing, and taking care of your skin is the number one way to love what you see in the mirror.
We will continue our beauty talk next week when we'll be covering the latest innovations in haircare - another must to look and feel your best. See you then!
