Style Guide: How To Pull Off Spring's Unexpected Trends

The first official day of Spring is right around the corner, and I'm loving this brighter feel to the weather. Of course, fashion is just as bright when longer days begin to make their appearance, and this spring's hottest trends are illuminating the way towards summer.

The great thing about this time of year is that you can soak up those gentle rays without worrying about your makeup sweating off, and it's also the best time for anyone who is slightly body conscious. No need to bear all, but enough room to leave a little on display!

Let's check out some unexpected trends we've seen make a comeback for this Spring, and how exactly to pull them off...

VELVET

A few weeks ago we talked about the wonder of velvet shoes and this trend is following us (or should I say walking with us) into Spring; now velvet is encroaching on the rest of our outfit as well!

This cute pair of Gucci mid-heels are fantastic for day or night wear, and don't cause near-neck breakages due to height. Pair them with a stylish pair of blue jeans, such as this chic FRAME straight leg choice, and then throw on the velvet, with a luxurious blazer suitable for every body type. This look as inspired by Jean of Elegant Edge is ultra-flattering!

OVERALLS

Certainly no longer just for painting, you can rock a pair of overalls with an abundance of style, and I love the fact that they're just the right amount of coverage for Spring. Pair them with something chic, stylish and glam, such as this beautiful Missoni turtleneck and throw on the shades - instant glam with little effort!

Overalls in darker shades, such as this Ksubi cropped overall, are really flattering for any body type - another reason to love this trend.

BALLOON SLEEVES

Go back in time to catch this look heading into spring, and again, flattering to the max, especially for anyone who isn't a fan of their upper arms. This Emilia Wickstead choice is not only on trend, but it's fun and flirty too, which is exactly what spring should be.

Heels are a must with this type of dress, and this Manolo Blahnik pair had my eyes watering with joy!

GINGHAM

You might be thinking back to your childhood when you see this trend, but gingham is BACK! Fresh for spring with blues and whites in calming tones, check out this gorgeous Mother of Pearl gingham dress, which works fantastically when paired with white denim. Shades are a must for a little Parisian chic!

Next week I'm going to be taking about the wilder side of fashion, checking out some fur choices to make you purr with excitement (we prefer the faux kind, of course).
