Style Guide: How To Stay Warm Without Sacrificing Style

Sometimes putting together a fashionable look when it's freezing outside (and potentially icy!) can be a major challenge. But this week I am here to tell you that style is not dependent on weather, and it's actually a great reason to put your creativity to the test.

Because I very rarely will sacrifice style for staying warm, here are a few tips on how I manage to do both…

PERFECT LAYERING

There's a reason why layered outfits are so chic during winter. They are very practical and oh so comfy.  Don't be afraid to play with textures and volumes. I'm all about thick layers, but for a cleaner, less igloo-like look take some inspiration from Jenny below and try a button down under a sweater with a tailored jacket. Or, wear a turtleneck under a masculine white shirt paired with jeans.

Bonus tip: For those extra chilly days, wear a pair of tights under your jeans. No one will be able to tell, and they not only will provide added warmth but they can offer an extra slimming effect as well!

THIGH HIGH BOOTS

I am officially over "over-the-knee" boots. Thigh-high is where it’s at this winter. If you have a fabulous pair of tall suede boots on, it doesn't really matter what you wear on top. They pair perfectly with skirts, leggings, tight jeans and dresses, plus they are a great way to warm up your legs. Jane's black & white ensemble is oh so chic. Add a pea coat and you are ready for a winter outing!

TRENCH COAT

Depending on what fabric you order it in, a trench coat can be perfect for everything from a rainy day to a bitter winter morning. A wool trench gives the same sleek look as a lighter version but with the added warmth. My wool coat is by far my favorite piece of outerwear during the winter months. You can literally throw it over anything for an instant dose of chic!

HATS + SCARVES

I used to hate wearing hats out of the fear of messing up my hair, but these cozy pom-pom hats that are all the rage right now are so cute that there’s really no need to take them off. There is nothing worse than having cold ears when you are walking around outside (except maybe cold feet), so these are the perfect solution to stay toasty and warm. Plus, they look great on everyone!

You all know I love a good blanket scarf, and this accessory really is one of the chicest ways to stay super warm.  Jenna is a head-to-toe perfect example of how to style both must-haves.

As difficult as it can be to dress for the cold, there are tricks to staying stylish when bundling up. I hope this week's post has you inspired to keep your winter style game strong.

Next week I am dishing on the next best thing to holiday dresses.... New Years Eve dresses. Where has this year gone?!
