Sometimes, just sometimes, we need to give ourselves a break. If you're anything like me, you're constantly running around all day from one appointment to the next, trying to fit everything into 24 hours when what you really need is more like 30. We feel obligated, for whatever reason, to get it all done, but all of this stress and rushing ultimately has a negative effect on our mind, body, and soul.
We need to learn to slow down, not only to prevent major burnout, but to also fully embrace every moment that we are living. The start of a new year is the perfect time to reset our priorities, and making ourselves top of that list should be priority #1!
Now, because money doesn't grow on trees (unfortunately), it's not always possible to head off to the nearest luxury spa for a personal pampering session. Thankfully, I've found a few ways to administer a healthy dose of self-love, without the huge price tag. Here are my top self-care tips for the start of a healthy new year...
Self-Care Tip 1: It's Ok To (Sometimes) Stay In Bed All Day
No, it's not lazy so don't be so hard on yourself! Sometimes a day in bed is just what the doctor ordered and provided this isn't a regular occurrence, a PJ day under the covers is truly a relaxing and healthy thing to do from time to time. So go ahead and grab your favorite magazines or a book you love, put on an uplifting DVD, and feed your soul in the healthiest of self-care ways.
Self-Care Tip 2: Make Time For Loved Ones
Making time for those we love shouldn't be something we only do occasionally, but unfortunately scheduling conflicts make it easier said than done. Commit to clearing out at least one full day a week to take your niece or nephew to the park, treat your mom to lunch, or enjoy a date night with your significant other. This is certainly one of the best ways to nurture your heart and soul, so be sure to turn your phones off and make the most of your quality time together.
Self-Care Tip 3: Exercise Good Health
Love it or hate it, moving your body is vital not only for your physical health but for your mental health as well. And it doesn't have to be something you loathe; exercise can be anything you want it to be. It could be a jog around the block, a hike with your dog in the park, a fitness class at the gym, or a team sport if you really want to get committed and involved. Exercise is a personal matter, so just do whatever it is that works best for you and your lifestyle.
Self-Care Tip 4: Go Ahead And Treat Yourself
Yes, going out and treating yourself to a special gift or experience does fall under my self-care guide for the new year! Of course, you don't want to overdue it and then stress about your funds, but a treat every now and then is a great way to boost your mood and reward yourself for all your hard work. Whether it's a day at the spa or the custom design handbag you've been eyeing, trust me when I say that you deserve it!!
At the end of the day, if you don't look after yourself, who else is going to? Self-care is not selfish...it is vital! Work these methods into your life and you'll see a huge difference in the way you feel.
