Style Guide: How To Wear Your Favorite Summer Pieces Through The New Season

Summer may be ending, but that doesn't mean your favorite fashion pieces have to be stored away until next year. I am a big believer in recycling trends to make them current for the new season, and it's surprisingly easy to do!

For the most part, all it requires is adding in a few extra layers here and there and you're good to go, but there are some tricks to the trade to avoid looking sloppy. Luckily for you, I've always been one to love sharing a good fashion secret...

Summer's Off-The-Shoulder Ruffles

Two of the biggest trends of the Summer season were ruffles and off-the-shoulder tops, and when combined you had yourself the perfect blouse. These trends both highlight a woman's silhouette, and are ultra-flattering no matter your body shape.

Don't want to leave them behind? You don't have to! A long-sleeved ruffle top counteracts the slight chill in the air, and when you wear it with a slim cut skinny jean - in a dark or light shade - you're really ticking the trend boxes. Simply replace Lauren's straw bag for a leather fringe version, and you'll be perfectly fashioned for early fall!

Gingham For Fall?!

While gingham is a mainstay, it is mostly associated with the Summer months when we think of floaty gingham cotton tops and cute printed skirts or shorts. But there is no reason this classic print can't be worn when the weather starts to cool!

Christina shows us that a lightweight blazer looks fantastic in gingham, and you can easily transition this print from Summer to Fall by using it as your perfect day-to-night cover up.

Wrap Dresses

As women, we should all take a moment to fully appreciate the beauty and ease of dresses. They not only make morning decisions of "what to wear" a breeze, but when paired with your favorite power heels and statement bag, a dress will pretty much guarantee you look polished and put together even when you mentally wish you were wearing sneakers and yoga pants.

A wrap dress is no different and with the adjustable tie and open slit, there's no reason anyone should give up these date night staples just because the weather cools. For fall, think of thicker and richer fabrics such as Jenny's velvet number below, or you may even considering layering a tight, long-sleeved body suit below a more flowy and open piece you already own.

I've never been one to follow the fashion rules, and instead I believe you can and should wear whatever makes you feel your best no matter what time of year it is. White after Labor Day? Absolutely! And gingham for Fall..why the heck not?! Hopefully these three little tricks will inspire you to keep your summer and winter clothes hanging together all year long.

Next week we will be closing out the month of August talking about my favorite color of all. Can you guess what it is?!
