Style Guide: How To Wear Sheer Clothing Outside of the Bedroom

Sheer clothing is reminiscent of 90s grunge fashion that we’re all guilty of sporting at some point in our lives. Fortunately, it’s been redone and reimagined in many stylish ways, so much so that it's now a staple in many women's closets.

This season is no different and we're seeing a steady influx of women donning sheer clothing, which makes its comeback imminent. But is sheer clothing for you? And can you wear it even if you consider yourself a conservative dresser? We think so! Read on to find out how...

Under A Blouse

The best—and safest—way to go about sheer clothing is to wear a tank top underneath your sheer blouse. Be intentional with your style and don’t just choose a random, raggedy tank at the bottom of your dresser. Make sure it complements your sheer blouse beautifully.

If you're feeling extra fashionable, take a style cue from Jessie Kass of Seams For A Desire and layer a tank over a gorgeous long-sleeved blouse instead. The sexy texture of her leather top adds depth and further highlights her sheer blouse.

Built-In Coverage

Luckily, there are no shortage of options where coverage is already built in. These blouses, dresses and skirts have a lining sewn into them to strategically cover the areas on your body you would rather not have exposed.

Having a few key pieces like this in your wardrobe will make pulling off the sheer clothing trend a breeze! All you really need to think about is how to accessorize your look.

Over A Dress

Another chic  and very fashion-forward method of pulling off sheer clothing is layering it over a dress. We saw a ton of this during fashion week and out for special events.

There are no brainer ready-to-wear options where the dress and sheer coverup are already paired together, but we suggest experimenting by mixing and matching different pieces. Update an old dress instantly by playing up it's color, print and design with a new sheer cover up!

Once again, pulling off sheer clothing is all about choosing the right pieces that fit in with your personal style and wardrobe. At the end of the day, it makes no sense to be the most "on trend" person in the room if you're not comfortable with what your wearing!
