How To Add Some Color To The Bleakest Time Of The Year

The dreariness of winter tends to leave me (and I’m sure sometimes you) gravitating towards black and gray hues. But I find that if I can force myself to add some color to my wardrobe, it almost immediately lightens my mood during the days when the sun goes down before leaving the office. Color, it turns out, can truly influence your inner state, so here are a few tips on how to bring some happy to your wardrobe during the bleakest time of year.

ALL BLACK + A POP OF COLOR

What's great about wearing all-black is that it’s an easy backdrop to any pop of color. Adding a bright skirt or jacket to an all-black look breaks up the monotony of the outfit. My favorite way to add some color to workwear is taking my spring / summer skirts and pairing them with a black turtleneck. Jenny's yellow and black ensemble is pure perfection!

THE POWER OF JEWELRY

Just because you're bundled up in coats and scarves doesn't mean that you must give up on your fabulous jewels. My go-to for winter accessorizing is layering colorful beaded bracelets over the long sleeves of my blouse, statement necklaces over sweaters (turquoise is my current craving!) and of course some big earrings. If you rather not add color through jewelry, you can at least add some sparkle! Jane's pretty jewels add some needed glitz to her boho-chic attire.

HAIR ACCESSORIES

Take advantage of the cold and try a warm hat in a fun color! Thanks to current trends, cozy hats are very chic this season so why not give them a try?! My favorites are furry versions and wide-brimmed designs. They can transform an ordinary outfit into a fashion statement. I am loving Caitlin's pink fuzzy beanie. It looks so cute with her winter white outfit.

COLORFUL COATS

With some great deals currently going on, this is by far the best time of the year to purchase your outerwear! But next time you go shopping, vow to not head straight to the black and gray. Instead look for something red, pink or even white. Powdery pink is a great color for winter, and breaks up the monotony of an all-black coat closet. I LOVE how Jenna matched her strappy shoes to her coat!

I know adding bright hues to a typically dark time of year can seem scary at first, but don't fret! Start slowly with accessories or even shoes, then work your way up to a colorful coat ;)

Next week I am sharing some new and exciting ways to wear leather!

Cheers to staying bright and warm this week!
