Even a tried-and-true fashionista has wardrobe hesitations every once in a while...I know I do!! The best way to prevent fashion faux-pas from happening in the first place is to always go with your gut. If you feel there's something off with your look, you're probably right.
Luckily, most problems can be solved with simple styling tricks. So to help you steer clear from making a wrong turn, here are my top 3 fashion mistakes you can avoid making this fall.
VINTAGE PIECES WITHOUT A MODERN TWIST
We all know that everything in fashion tends to cycle back, but use caution when wearing your favorite vintage pieces. Styled the wrong way, and you can quickly go from street style star to theatre character.
The key here is to add some simple contemporary touches to your retro look. For example, pair your flare jeans (which are totally making a comeback) with sneakers, high boots, a statement bag or a cool backpack. These fashion forward accessories will result in something fabulous as Lisa from See Want Shop demonstrates. Her perfect balance of retro and modern is definitely making me crave a pair of flare jeans!!
THE "RIGHT" ACCESSORIES
Am I the only one who hoards accessories like my favorite lipstick (because God forbid it should be discontinued)?? Whatever outfit you wear, you always need to accessorize. Whether it's a hot pair of over the knee boots, sexy sunglasses or a simple set of rings, never leave your house without accessorizing - but at the same time, make sure you don't overdo it. Jessie Kass shows how to use minimal accessories to perfectly complement a look!!
1. J BRAND Skinny Jeans 2. MADEWELL Slub T-shirt 3. ALEXA CHUNG FOR AG Denim Jacket 4. CHLOE Suede Ankle Boots 5. MEL BOTERI Olive Boteri Mini Tote Bag 6. SKAGEN Bracelet Watch 7. RAY-BAN Small Aviator Sunglasses
Whatever you do, do not overcomplicate your looks with intricate combinations. Remember that "less is more" and more importantly, "simple is safe." I'm not saying you can never wear a floral dress or go for that fabulous sequined bralette, just treat them as statement pieces and accessorize them as such.
My favorite simple, yet elegant look that is super easy to create (and never pretentious) is a pair of leather pants and a jacket. You can use this look for everything from casual business meetings to date night. Jane is absolutely rocking my go-to look with the addition of some killer booties!!
